Last month we mentioned that we saw a large flock of Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos feeding on Parrot Bush. Yesterday we came across another flock of these large birds on Buckland Hill, feeding on wattle trees. They were biting off the ends of shoots and then chomping on them, while holding the shoot with one claw.
Some Perth locals describe these large birds as being “very destructive”. But they are a threatened species that are losing their habitat due to land clearance. So they just have to eat what they can find.
