Berry Saltbush

Berry Saltbush 1

We noticed this Berry Saltbush (Rhagodia baccata) growing beside the salty Swan River estuary at Minim Cove recently, and have also noticed it growing on Buckland Hill. It has bunches of very striking crimson-red fruit at present.

If you’re keen on fine detail, there are actually two subspecies of the plant – Rhagodia baccata baccata (Berry Saltbush) and Rhagodia baccata dioica (Sea Berry Saltbush) – which seem to differ mainly in the shape of the minute hairs on the back of the leaves.
