Kangaroo Paw

Kangaroo Paw 1

We were walking along one of the bush trails in Kings Park last week and noticed that the Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos manglesii, or Mangles’ Kangaroo Paw to use its full common name) is in flower at present. This flower is the State Floral Emblem of Western Australia.

The striking red and green flowers do indeed look rather like a kangaroo’s paw. And the buds are even more colourful, with a stripe of yellow separating the red and green.
